Hello Record Store Day 2013! After the cold, rainy day of RSD 12, you couldn't have asked for a better day to go record store crawling. Let's dive in and see what was going on.
The first stop of the day was the world famous Grimey's on 8th Ave. S. Quite a line had formed by the time I got there, but fortunately they were all waiting for the new Record Store Day exclusives or to meet & greet the current #1 selling band in the country, Paramore.
If you have ever been to one of the gargantuan sidewalk sales at Grimey's, you might have been a little disappointed in the scant selection this year. I wonder if it is increased competition for the pre-owned titles by other retailers or if there was a decision to scale back on the cheap stuff. These people in the photos only seemed interested in the new stuff by the way they are ignoring the used bins, so perhaps it didn't really make a difference in the long run. By the way, there were only two tables of CDs over to the left and the rest were LPs. In the past there were 6 times as many CDs.
Here's a record I passed on, but man, I LOVE the cover!
Next up was a new record store that just opened on RSD - Fond Object Records on McGavock Pike in Inglewood's Riverside Village. Cool vinyl records with a smattering of CDs and fair prices. Definitely one to keep an eye on. Snagged a few cool records there:
Last up was The Groove, deep in the heart of East Nashville. Great turnout (no pics), great selection, live music being played, food trucks cookin' and an artistic happening in the back alley made this my fav stop of the day.
I will be revisiting soon to get the after photos for comparison. Now how about some of the haul you say!!
Now to just kick back and relax or kick out the jams and spin some wax!
